Course Overview
Program Description:
This program prepares students for employment in the distribution and logistics management field. It encompasses the entire supply chain: Designing new products, forecasting, procuring raw materials, manufacturing, distribution, transportation, warehousing and inventory, marketing and promoting, import and export, and reverse logistics. Students learn import and export procedures and product distribution which includes electrical, wholesale items, plumbing, plastic, HVAC and textiles. Students also learn operational procedures, industry related computer programs, including automated inventory and control operations. Students are engaged in the entire process from the selection, reception and distribution of product or merchandise.
Every product and company has a chain of supplies and distribution. Careers are available with companies such as: Amazon, Apple, Coca-Cola, FedEx, Hillsborough County Public Schools, NAPA Auto Parts, Pepin Distribution, Port Tampa Bay, ProLogistix, Publix, RESA Power, UPS, and Walmart.
The course includes a five-week internship to learn valuable skills in the field. Students will be prepared to take the Global Logistics Associate (GLA) Certification Test*.
*As of April 2017, APICS (the organization which offers the GLA Certification Test) has temporarily suspended the GLA program. APICS estimates they will resume offering the GLA Certification test in November 2017.
