All students will have background checks prior to entering the clinical portion of the program. After acceptance into the health science program, the following procedures will occur:
On the first day of class, the student will bring a check or money order for $72 for fingerprinting of the Nursing Assistant-Articulated Program. The Nursing Assistant-Articulated Program follows the Florida Board of Nursing-Nurse Practice Act, Chapter 464.018 for disciplinary actions regarding offenses that are found guilty. If a student is guilty, approval for clinical experience will be denied. Clinical experience is a required component of the program. Approval for clinical does not necessarily mean the student will clear the Board of Nursing.
The student will submit to a random urine drug screening(at student's expense). Any positive findings will result in the student being denied clinical.
Students will be expected to pay for another background check when applying to take the State of Florida Certified Nursing Assistant examination. Background checks completed for the purpose of clearance for clinicals cannot be used as clearance for the CNA examination.
There is no appeal process for denials to clinicals based on the results of the background check.
Pregnancy: Because of the potential for damage to the fetus or the health and safety of the pregnant woman, the pregnant student needs to be aware of the physical activity, lifting, environmental hazards, and contact with isolation patients. The pregnant student is required to have a monthly release from MD/ARNP or nurse midwife that it is safe to continue in the clinical area without restrictions.
Immunocompromised: Because of the potentially serious threat to the student’s health, a student who is immunocompromised needs to be aware of the risk of infectious disease and contact with isolation patient. The student is required to have a monthly release from MD/ARNP that is safe to continue in the clinical area without restrictions.
Payment is accepted in cash, check, money order, credit card or agency voucher. Payment plans are available. All students must meet with the financial aid advisor PRIOR to the first day of class.
